Mas De Daumas Gassac
Anecdotes from the Le Mas de Daumas Gassac estate: The estate relies on winemakers who respect their terroir and adhere to three core principles: - Respect for the environment: by cultivating small vineyards, they can be integrated into the heart of the Garrigue forest without destroying it. - The complexity of the wines: these 50 hectares of vines nestled within 100 hectares of forest enrich the wines with unique aromas: strawberry tree, rockrose, wild mint, etc. - The preserved ecosystem: this unique forest maintains the connection between fauna, flora, and viticulture. Daumas Gassac rejects all forms of chemical fertilizers, emphasizing natural compost. The story of the Le Mas de Daumas Gassac estate begins with an exceptional terroir discovered in the 1970s by the renowned scholar Henri Enjalbert, holder of the chair of geography at the Bordeaux Academy. Henri Enjalbert discovered that in the heart of the Arboussas massif, beneath the thick garrigue scrubland, lay some forty hectares of deep, perfectly drained soil, poor in humus and plant matter, but rich in mineral oxides. Enjalbert compares this soil to the finest Burgundy terroirs of the Côte d'Or! The team at the estate is close-knit and passionate. Each member works in their respective field, yet all are closely connected. Over forty years, the estate has benefited from the contributions of some thirty employees dedicated to excellence. From the vineyard to the cellar, including welcoming visitors to the estate and managing relationships with private and professional clients, several teams work together to produce the Grand Cru wines of Gassac. The pride of the estate: Located in the Agly Valley, in a wild and pristine environment where nature reigns supreme, the estate covers an area of 14 hectares. Taken over in 2015 by three passionate individuals, the estate underwent organic conversion from the outset, both for cultivation and winemaking. Benefiting from an ideal environment, exceptional terroir, and an optimal climate, the vines flourish. Hugh Johnson considered it the only Grand Cru in the South of France. Mr. Parker described our wine as "exceptional." This "Lafite in Languedoc," as named by Gault Millau, is one of Michael Broadbent's top 10 wines in the world. In 30 years, Véronique and Aimé Guibert have achieved the rare status of "cult wine" with their Mas Daumas Gassac wines. The new generation at the helm of the estate carries on these values: respect for tradition and the terroir to create truly unique wines.
